Perched on the heights above Lausanne, between the Lavaux vineyards and the Jorat forest, Savigny is a country commune where people come looking for fresh air, paths and space. The village sits at around 800 metres, and in clear weather the view runs from the Savoy Alps to the Moléson.

Fancy a short walk that ends in a real discovery? North of Savigny, the Étang du Gresaley hides on the edge of the bois du Grand-Jorat. An observation deck lets you watch the water and the reeds, and a picnic table awaits the snack. Free, a few minutes from the car park.

Why choose Savigny for a family outing?
Because you can spend a whole day there without opening your wallet. In the village centre, the Place du Forum brings the essentials together: the Forum playground with its combined towers and its climbing tree, and right beside it the skatepark, the multisports court, the synthetic football pitch and the athletics track, all openly accessible. Brothers and sisters of different ages are all catered for in the same place, under the same watchful eye.
Then there are the neighbourhood playgrounds, and each has its own character. The one on the chemin de la Verne is the most recent: entirely rebuilt, it lines up a big boat, a large swing, a balance grove, a drinking fountain and black locust furniture behind a new fence. The Ancien collège playground is the quietest, perfect with toddlers and a step from the village toy library. The one at la Guéta and Eden Roc serves the residential neighbourhood to the west, and the Collège du Jorat playground, with its crow's nest and slide, combines ideally with a walk along the edge of the woods.
On the nature side, the Étang du Gresaley is the real find. Hidden on the edge of the bois du Grand-Jorat, a few minutes from the car park on the chemin de la Planie, it is admired from an observation deck built by the commune, facing the reeds. A 3.8 km loop, the circuit known as Craivavers, leads there via a roots trail, a small waterfall and the chemin des Aqueducs.
Finally, Savigny marked its bicentenary with a documented 16.7 km trail, opened in April 2026 and published on SuisseMobile, dotted with eight QR code panels giving access to video capsules. It is long for young walkers, but the eight relays make it possible to split it over several outings and turn the walk into a treasure hunt.
