Where the Venoge is born

In L'Isle, at the foot of the Jura, the river Venoge rises in spectacular resurgences. From the park of the Château de L'Isle (a fine building from 1698), a waymarked walk leads in about an hour to these sources, the main one of which, « Le Chauderon », gushes directly from the rock. Along the water, through the village and nature, it's an easy, refreshing and instructive walk to do as a family.

What your children will discover

Children follow the river and discover, in wonder, the water coming out of the ground at the resurgences. It's a chance to explain simply where a river comes from and how it is born. Between the castle, the village and the sources, the walk blends nature, water and heritage, at a child's level.

What you do and the atmosphere on site

You set off from the park of the Château de L'Isle, follow the waymarked route to the sources, and come back at your own pace. The atmosphere is peaceful and bucolic. Depending on the route chosen (longer or shorter), the walk suits different ages. Remember good shoes and keep an eye on the children at the water's edge.
