An hour from the Riviera, Le Pays-d’Enhaut has all the makings of a postcard: century-old chalets, alpine pastures and pure air. But it is also a wonderful playground for children, where you learn about the forest on a nature trail in the morning and take up archery in the afternoon. Destination: Rougemont.

This is the nature outing par excellence: the nature trail in the forêt des Arses lays out its observation points through the forest, from age 4. The information boards turn the walk into a discovery game — who lives in this tree trunk? what is this bark for? — and the climb stays reasonable for small legs.

Our suggested day in Rougemont
Morning: the forêt des Arses trail, with a picnic along the way. Afternoon: archery (book ahead) or the museum depending on the weather. And before heading home, an ice cream in the village while admiring the painted chalet façades — some are more than 300 years old.
Getting there as a family
The MOB train (the Montreux–Gstaad line) stops in Rougemont: the panoramic journey from Montreux is already an attraction in itself, with its curves through the vineyards and then the alpine pastures. A lovely car-free option.
