A rainy day in Geneva: our favourite outings with children

Rain drumming on the bay and children going round in circles? Good news: Geneva is one of the best-equipped cities in French-speaking Switzerland for turning a grey day into a memorable one.

Trampolines, indoor pools, surprising museums and minigolf courses that light up: here are our favourite indoor outings in Geneva and the neighbouring communes, most of them reachable by TPG tram or bus.

Burning off energy despite the rain

A child who hasn’t moved all day means a complicated evening. Here is where to let off steam:

• Yatouland, in Les Acacias: the big indoor play park where you can climb, jump and slide to your heart’s content. The safe bet for 2 to 10 year olds.
• AIRLOOP, in Grand-Lancy, and Gravity Park, in Meyrin: two big trampoline parks where children bounce safely under supervision.
• Le Môll, in Vernier: bouldering, trampolines and a toddler area under one roof. Handy for siblings of mixed ages.
• The Varembé pool or Les Vernets: indoor pools open all year round, with a paddling area for little ones. Les Pervenches in Carouge completes the list on the left bank.

Museums that children genuinely love

• Le Musée d’Histoire des Sciences, in the Perle du Lac park: globes, telescopes and instruments from times past in a pretty villa by the lake. And it’s free.
• The great Geneva classics — the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, the MEG, the Maison de la créativité — are also well worth the detour: check opening hours and recommended ages on their official websites.

Team games and outings with a difference

• LaseRed and Laser Game Genève: to run, aim and laugh under cover, from around age 6–7.
• Quiz Room, in Eaux-Vives: a TV studio where the whole family buzzes in as a team.
• Rollers Mini-Golf Bar and Swing: two indoor minigolf venues with film-set décors and interactive holes that light up.
• ColoRoom, in Les Acacias: painting with no rules at all and leaving with your own artwork. Ideal when the energy is creative rather than physical.

And the cinema?

Our tips for a successful rainy day

• Book or arrive early: on rainy weekends, indoor parks and trampolines fill up quickly.
• Remember non-slip socks for trampolines and play parks.
• Alternate a physical activity with a calm one to balance the day.
• The tram is part of the outing: children love it, and you avoid hunting for a parking space in the rain.
