Château d'Aigle: medieval fortress and family treasure hunts
What if your children went on a treasure hunt in a real castle? In the heart of the vineyards of Chablais, the Château d'Aigle stands its towers and ramparts above the city. A medieval fortress that houses the Museum of Vine, Wine, and Etiquette, along with a whole program of activities for families.
A medieval fortress in the midst of the Chablais vineyards
Perched above the town, Aigle Castle has watched over the Vaud Chablais vineyard since the Middle Ages. With its large round towers, walkway, and crenellated ramparts, it is the very image of the fortress that children draw. Inside, one discovers the Museum of the Vine, Wine, and Labels, located in the former lordly halls. The decor combines ancient stones, cobblestones, and spiral staircases, with the terraced vineyards and the Alps as a backdrop. An outing that pleases both little knights and parents curious about history.
What your children will discover
The castle is visited like a real adventure playground. You can climb the towers, walk along the ramparts, cross vaulted halls, and the old prison. The museum tells the story of the vine and wine through a large collection of labels and objects, with temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year. For families, the castle offers several guided activity trails led by an animator: the Treasure Hunt and the Dragon Hunt for the youngest, The Enchanter's Laboratory to make potions, In the Time of the Middle Ages or In the Footsteps of the Prisoners for the older ones. During a self-guided visit, the game booklet "Mystery at the Castle" allows families to solve puzzles at their own pace.
What to do there and the atmosphere on site
Here, you take the time to explore. Children love climbing to the top of the towers to overlook the town and the vineyards, walking along the ramparts, and imagining life in the past. The atmosphere is that of a living castle, human-sized, where you can easily move from one room to another. On site, the Pinte du Paradis and its terrace facing the vineyards allow for a gourmet break. Be sure to wear good shoes: the site is all cobblestones, stairs, and ancient passages.
