Back to school and school holidays in the Jura 2026-2027: all the dates

Here is the full calendar of the 2026-2027 school year in the Jura, followed by our family outing ideas for each holiday period.

Jura school calendar 2026-2027

These dates follow the Jura cantonal calendar relayed by the CIIP. Like Neuchâtel, the Jura breaks up for the autumn holidays at the very start of October, one to two weeks before the other cantons in French-speaking Switzerland. Always check your school’s official calendar before booking.

When does the 2026 school year start in the Jura?

The 2026-2027 school year starts on Monday 17 August 2026, the same day as Vaud, Geneva and Neuchâtel. Valais starts on 20 August and Fribourg on 27 August. You still have the first two weeks of August for one last outing, while the outdoor pools and the adventure parks are still in full swing.

Autumn holidays: the Jura forests in colour

From 5 to 16 October 2026, with school resuming on Monday 19 October. The Jura breaks up early, and that is an advantage: sites are quieter and the weather is often still mild. It is the best time of year for forest walks, themed nature trails and farms open to children, of which the region has plenty. When the rain sets in, head for interactive museums and our ideas for rainy days.

Christmas holidays: ice rinks and first snow

From 24 December 2026 to 8 January 2027, back to school on Monday 11 January. Two full weeks: ice rinks, Christmas markets and, as soon as the snow settles on the heights, sledging and snowshoeing. Under cover, museums and sports and leisure activities take over.

February holidays: a week in the depths of winter

From 15 to 19 February 2027, back to school on Monday 22 February. A short week, in the heart of the cold season: cross-country skiing on the ridges, sledging, ice rinks, or outings in the warm at the museums and escape games.

Easter holidays: nature wakes up

From 26 March to 9 April 2027, back to school on Monday 12 April. Two weeks just as everything turns green again: playgrounds reopening, the gorges and waterfalls of the Jura and the first stroller walks.

Summer holidays: ridges, rivers and wide open spaces

Classes end on Friday 2 July 2027. On the programme: walks along the ridges, the rivers Doubs and Birse, the outdoor pools and the adventure parks.
