Kidora
Our story
Kidora was not born from a desire to create yet another directory. The project started from a very concrete need: quickly finding an activity suited to a family, without having to browse a multitude of websites and piece all the information together yourself.
The starting point
Like many parents, I was regularly looking for ideas to fill a Wednesday, organise a weekend or enjoy a day out as a family. The good ideas existed, but they were spread across tourist offices, municipalities, specialised websites, social media and organisers’ pages.
You often had to open several pages to work out whether an activity was suitable, check the opening hours and track down the practical information. That is when the idea of Kidora started to take shape.
Turning a search into a tool
My experience in building digital products allowed me to approach the problem as a service to be built: how do you bring the information together? Which filters are genuinely useful? How do you present an activity so that a parent can quickly tell whether it is worth considering?
The first foundations of Kidora were designed around this logic. Each listing had to be more than a name and an address. It had to place the activity in a family context and make preparing the outing easier.
The first activities
The work started locally, by researching the activities on offer in regions we already knew well. Tourism websites, municipalities, museums, parks and organisers made it possible to build the first selections.
This phase also showed the importance of maintenance. Opening hours change, activities evolve, some places close temporarily and new offers appear. Kidora therefore had to include an update logic from the very start, not just a publishing one.
A platform that learns from families
As it developed, Kidora gained new filters, themed content and tools designed for parents. The searches carried out on the platform, the feedback received and the errors reported help us better understand which information really matters.
The project is growing gradually, region by region. We prefer to improve the quality and relevance of the content rather than give the impression of complete coverage when it is not there yet.
Today
Kidora brings together family activities in Switzerland and continues to expand its coverage. New listings are added, existing content is checked and new tools are developed to address concrete situations: finding an outing based on the weather, preparing a birthday party, organising a holiday period or discovering a region.
What comes next?
Our goal remains the same: making family activities easier to discover and better showcasing the players who offer them. The next steps will involve broader coverage of Switzerland, ever more practical information and features designed around families’ real needs.
