Grangettes Nature Reserve
Want a nature walk, free and easy, by Lake Geneva? At the mouth of the Rhône, the Grangettes reserve offers your children peaceful trails, a birdwatching tower, and amazing wildlife. A wild interlude just a stone's throw from Villeneuve.
A little wild corner at the mouth of the Rhône
Between Villeneuve and Noville, where the Rhône flows into Lake Geneva, lies one of the last large natural areas along the lake's shores: the Grangettes reserve. It is a landscape of reed beds, ponds, and floodplain forests, a remnant of the marshes that once covered the Rhône plain. People come here on foot, for free, to breathe, observe, and slow down. With its marked and flat paths, it is an ideal place for a first family nature discovery, away from noise and screens.
What your children will discover
The reserve is home to a rich fauna and flora: nearly 269 species of birds have been observed here, and attentive children may spot kingfishers, frogs, dragonflies, or beaver tracks around the ponds. A wooden observation tower allows you to watch the birds in their natural habitat without disturbing them. It is a true open-air nature lesson, where each season brings its surprises: songs in spring, dragonflies in summer, migratory birds in autumn.
What to do there and the atmosphere on site
The atmosphere is calm and soothing, filled with the rustling of reeds and the calls of birds. Three marked routes start from Villeneuve: an easy loop of about 30 minutes leads to a lovely viewpoint, while a longer route, around 1h30, allows you to discover the full diversity of the reserve. You walk, stop, and observe with binoculars. It is a protected space: dogs must be kept on a leash, you must stay on the paths, and all motorized traffic is prohibited.
