Activities for children aged 3 to 5 in Geneva: our outing ideas

At 3 to 5, the Geneva advantage is clear: almost everything is reachable by TPG, distances are short, and the canton has plenty of beaches and pools that are free or very affordable.

The rest comes down to three criteria that apply anywhere: a two-hour outing, a safe perimeter where you can let go of their hand, and the logistics (toilets, shade, picnic table). Here is our selection.

Baby-Plage and the shallow-water beaches

This is format number one at this age: children paddle, never stray from the towel, and neither do you.

• Baby-Plage, in Eaux-Vives — the great Geneva classic for the youngest: a small sand-and-grass beach, shallow water, a playground a stone’s throw away. And it’s free.
• The Bécassine park beach in Versoix — a free, soothing corner of Lake Geneva, set in a park.
• Le Reposoir beach in Pregny-Chambésy — a public beach well designed for families.
• Le Vengeron beach in Bellevue — a large lawn by the lake, a stone’s throw from the city.
• Port-Choiseul beach in Versoix — free, in a large wooded park that is ideal for a picnic.
• Pointe-à-la-Bise beach in Collonge-Bellerive — a big lawn, a kiosk, and the nature reserve right next door for watching birds.
• Céligny beach and Crans-près-Céligny beach — two quiet little spots with a playground and barbecues.
• La Plaine beach in Dardagny — natural bathing on the banks of the Rhône, with a paddling area for the youngest and a bird hide. Reachable by train.

Swimming pools: paddling areas and shallow water

When the lake is cold or rough, a supervised pool is more manageable at this age.

• Les Vergers outdoor pool in Meyrin
• The Grand-Lancy outdoor pool
• La Bécassière outdoor pool in Versoix
• Varembé in Geneva and Thonex, which have both an indoor and an outdoor pool — handy when the weather is uncertain.

Animals, with no walking

This is the format that never fails at 3 to 5.

• Parc aux Animaux du Bois-de-la-Bâtie — nearly 300 local animals to watch up close, in the open air, free of charge, on the heights above the city. Our first Geneva recommendation at this age.

The boat as an activity in itself

Going out for free in Geneva

This is the age when free is more than enough: a municipal beach, an animal park, a playground and a snack fill an afternoon.
